In 2015, during its Sesquicentennial observances the membership of the AOI voted to deaccession its collection of Fire Department apparatus and two bronze bells to the Friendship Fire Association of DC's Museum.

In 2014, the AOI of DC's membership voted to de-accession a number of antique fire objects held by the Historical Society of DC to the Friendship Fire Association Museum.

In 2014, in support for the AOI's call to preserve the District's historic and iconic DC War Memorial on the National Mall, DC's Elected Congressional Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton placed this Congressional Resolution into the Congressional Record.

On Memorial Day 2010, the AOI observed the 90th anniversary of the dedication of the District of Columbia 16th Street Tree War Memorial. In support of that effort, the D.C. City Council issued a Ceremonial Resolution which Chairman Phil Mendelson presented during the observance.
