AOI in the Age of the Covid-19 Pandemic

After more than 25 years of continuous (well, 8 times yearly) luncheon events -- with the exception of February 2003's snowmageddon and Hurricane Isabelle in September 2003 -- the AOI Officers and Directors put in place a hiatus until the "all clear" was given on the worldwide pandemic.
The AOI Board worked diligently and tirelessly through those 16 months to ensure that the business of our organization continued to include socially-distanced Board meetings throughout 2020 and 2021.
Deliberations ranged from the worst-case scenario of the AOI ceasing operations to finding a way forward including new, enthusiastic members willing to serve as Officers and Directors and continue the fine traditions of the organization.
After the then current Board agreed to extend their terms of service into 2021 to provide continuity and continue operations, members were surveyed and the results were shared and discussed further during our first-ever Zoom membership meeting in April 2021 with 75 members participating.
Much thought went into what the membership would be asked to vote upon at our Sept. 2nd membership meeting to approve two important Board Resolutions that: #1 ensured the continued leadership of the organization given the challenges of the pandemic era; and, #2 ensured the two main missions of the organization preserving D.C. history and preservation advocacy endure.

The Membership participated in a Zoom meeting on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at 1pm (EDT) and overwhelmingly approved two initiatives to:  #1 Elect new Officers and Directors for the 2021-2022 term and #2 Approve the Legacy Endowment.  Details of both are available for viewing in the current newsletter which is posted on the Sept 2021 Newsletter tab.  In the mean time the new Officers and Directors have been listed in More About the AOI.  The video of the Sept. 2nd meeting and the March 26th 2021 Zoom meeting can be found under the Luncheon Recordings tab.
